Tubi Inossidabili and the company’s longest-serving employee. For 28 years, he has been a key point of reference in maintaining the production facilities, helping to ensure operational continuity and continuous improvement. We spoke with him about experience, problem-solving, and the satisfaction of bringing a machine back to life.
Name and role
Mauro Messina, Maintenance Manager.
How long have you been working at A.D. Tubi Inossidabili, and how did your career begin?
I have been working at A.D. Tubi for 28 years. I started as a production line operator, then became a shift supervisor, and finally moved into maintenance, which is the role I enjoy the most and the one that gives me the greatest satisfaction.
What does managing maintenance mean in practical terms?
It means ensuring production continuity by solving any issues that may affect the machinery. Our goal is to keep the production lines running efficiently, responding quickly whenever problems arise and minimizing downtime.
When can maintenance be considered truly “done to the highest standard”?
When you are able to prevent problems before they occur while also being ready to respond quickly and effectively whenever an emergency arises.
What details really make the difference in your work?
Experience. Over the years, you get to know every single machine inside out. After so many years, I can honestly say I know our production lines better than my own home!
What is the most important skill you have developed over the years?
Experience gives you a kind of intuition that is difficult to explain. Sometimes, just by listening to the sound of a rotating shaft, I can immediately understand what is wrong with the machine and where I need to intervene.
Is there a project you have worked on that is particularly close to your heart? Why?
I have been involved in the installation of almost all of the company’s production lines. The project in the United States, where we installed new production lines, was certainly one of the most important and challenging experiences of my career. I am also particularly proud of Line 7, which we built entirely here at our Casnate facility. It is a project that perfectly reflects the expertise we have developed in-house over the years.
What would you say to someone considering a career in your field?
It is a rewarding job where you never get bored. Every day brings new challenges, and there is great satisfaction in solving a problem and getting a production line back up and running.
What are you most proud of in your work?
I am most proud when I design, build, or modify a component from scratch and then see it work perfectly. Sometimes it is just a simple part made in the workshop, but knowing that your solution has genuinely improved the performance of a machine is an incredible feeling.
