In this edition of One minute with…, we meet Franco Maspero, Production Shift Supervisor at A.D. Tubi Inossidabili, who has witnessed the company’s evolution firsthand for over twenty years. With him, we talk about quality, teamwork, and what it means to lead a production shift.

How long have you been working in production and how did your career begin?
I have been working at A.D. Tubi since 2001. I started as an apprentice, then became an operator and, after several years of experience, I moved into the role of shift supervisor in 2013.

What does it mean, in practical terms, to be a shift supervisor in tube production?
It means making sure everything runs smoothly, stepping in quickly to solve any issues and minimize material waste. For colleagues, the shift supervisor is a point of reference: experience is essential, but so are passion and genuine interest in the job. My role is to pass on values and skills to those working on the production lines in a clear and effective way, ensuring that the product meets the company’s quality standards.

When can a tube be considered “made to the highest standard”?
That’s something customers should say (laughs). Jokes aside, when it fully complies with order specifications and regulations. Experience plays a big role here as well: sometimes even a manual check is enough to spot details that can be improved.

What details really make the difference in product quality?
The attention of the people working on the machines. It’s essential to always be precise and meticulous. My role is to convey the importance of an impeccable approach to quality.

What is the most important skill you have developed over the years?
Problem-solving. In production, technical issues can always arise, and over time I’ve learned how to deal with many different situations. It’s just as important to stay calm when facing unexpected challenges.

How do you manage the team during a shift?
Thanks to their experience and training, my colleagues are very autonomous. My role is mainly supervision and providing support when needed, especially in critical situations.
